Going into Hospital

If you wish to STOP BEFORE YOUR OP:
Your GP will refer you to a specialist adviser either at your surgery or at the local NHS Stop Smoking Service.

Before admission you will be invited for regular appointments with a specialist stop smoking adviser.

They will provide you with guidance, support and medication to assist with your quit attempt.

RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THE BENEFITS OF STOPPING SMOKING 8 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR OPERATION CAN BE:
Wounds healing quicker
Bones knitting together faster
Less risk of chest infections
Less risk of blood clots
Less risk of wound infection

With the help of a specialist stop smoking adviser you can be supported in your quit attempt before, during and after your hospital stay.

If you decide to quit after your discharge from hospital, call the Gloucestershire NHS Stop Smoking Service on:
